HSCC Program Information

Students in Information Technology
Education and Scholarship

Over the past 13 years, the BDPA program curriculum has educated and trained over 20,000 students. This information has enabled them to develop life skills, improve academic performance and develop work maturity. BDPA members act as trainers, instructors, tutors, and mentors who use the curriculum contextually as part of an on-the-job career and life planning process. This dynamic program links the youth to school-to-work and other yearlong efforts such as career awareness and exploration objectives.

Rhode Island BDPA: Bridging The Digital Divide

BDPA has a tradition of "Closing the Gap in Information Technology. The HSCC (High School Computer Competition) program is conducted in more than 30 chapters across the US annually training more than 1000 grades 9 through 11 students. The training consist of computer and presentation skills and web application programming. The program climaxes with an annual computer competition between 25 or more teams of 4 to 5 students at the BDPA National Conference. The conference is usually held in August.

The Rhode Island Chapter of BDPA provides computer instructional programs to area high school students through the (Students in Information Technology Education and Scholarship) S.I.T.E.S. Program. Participating students will receive quality instruction in basic programming concepts using the Java programming language, web page design using HTML, database design and various topics in career development. These are skills that will prove valuable and can immediately be put to practical use.

At the end of the training cycle, qualified students will be selected to participate in the national HSCC (High School Computer Competition) competition which will be held during the BDPA Annual National Conference. High school students of BDPA chapters from across the country will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned, to network with other high school students and to meet representatives from some of the top companies in the information technology industry
